So, I haven't actively been a part of deviantArt in months, almost all of 2011 to be honest. I'm just not feelin' it anymore. i'm not going to close my account but I am posting this and in January I'll post some image with the same information.

I'm spending my time posting my drawings on my comic blog and tumblr now. I'm also spending more time making videos, I'm hoping that for 2012 I'll be able to post at least one video a week, if not a bit more often, we'll see how the semester pans out. But that's it.

Well, It's been about....6 months since I said anything here? Damn...I haven't been drawing much, I have a ton of doodles and a ream of wasted paper because I hate just about everything I'd done recently. My current effort to stave off boredom has become Youtube, but not watching stupid animal videos, and also not watching stupid children videos, or stupid accident videos, I've been watching vlogs. I've been watching a lot of vlogs. When not watching a vlog I'm probably on tumblr or recording/editing my own vlog. This is my time outside of class...

Hmm, back to the task at hand: I've watched almost all of Nerimon's videos, I've seen all of CharlieIsSoCoolLike and Littleradge. I'm working my way through the Vlogbrothers and WheezyWaiter now. And I have videos up, a vlog about once or twice  week, then some other footage...films? Recordings(!) the rest of the week.

My youtube is this embedded link MarTheWorld and now to continue to not eat this morning and watch more WheezyWaiter. I'm back in 2009, early 2009 for his videos. Also, hopefully my videos will get better soon, no one ever comments so I have no way to figure out how to change things aside from in my edits. No one comments, so I can't ask for things to do, but I will do a video of me drawing something, eventually. That set up will be a bitch.

Oh yeah, I mentioned my tumblr, I reblog a lot of things and link to my accounts of various sites when I post things. It's mostly reblogged content. Movies, comics, social issues, other. Check it out So yeah, I miss drawing, I'll draw things soon, especially since I'm in the midst of 100 Days I need to get drawing on that, I'm so far behind.

Feel free to follow me on tumblr I reblog a lot of movie crap, comic crap and men in relatively low amounts of clothing. Some new content periodically, it's more of a place for me to post silly things from the internet. My twitter link is on my front page like always, I talk comics and movies then complain about life there a lot.

Happy New Year!

This past September 9th a high school freshman killed himself because
of being bullied for accused of being gay, for being queer - a little different.

Dan Savage is a sex and relationship advice columnist based out of Seattle Washington, his podcast and columns are insightful, blunt, kind, funny and pretty much always entertaining. Dan also happens to be gay and thinks that the torture that Billy and many other gay youth are subject to sucks. He's starting a campaign called 'It Get's Better' he wants bullied gay kids to know that things will get better, they just have to stick it out a few more years.

blogtown.portlandmercury.com/B… Dan's blog post on the subject

blogtown.portlandmercury.com/B… A response tho give bullied kids hope that living is better then killing themselves

www.youtube.com/itgetsbetterpr… Dan's It Gets Better project on youtube

www.thestranger.com/seattle/Sa… Savage Love Letter of the Day: Give 'em Hope - The third thing Dan addresses here is a question from a reader who wants to encourage young closeted or out homosexuals and Dan talks about what he got started. Please share this information, if nothing else share the youtube clip. If you know someone who is having trouble, it gets better.

What I like about this is that it cam apply to any kid who's been bullied. I was bulled for being a fat kid in elementary school. Now I'm a bigger then average woman in college, but I didn't let petty childish assholes keep me down.

I'm mostly tired of that long-fuck journal that I've had up since the 25th, so here's something much shorter and possibly sweeter.

I've been drawing shit all summer, new shit you haven't seen here yet and some of it will be posted here soon. I needed to get settled into the new school year first and figure out when the free lab times were in the art building so I could camp there and scan and pretty things for internet consumption. I have just about an entire sketchbook's worth of stuff to post, the beginning of a new sketchbook and some tiny random webcomic fan arts to post.

Also, in my scanning extravaganza I have a journal comic waiting! It's called 100 Days and will all be posted on it's own blogger account! It is about 100 consecutive days of my summer and into the beginning of the school year. Some of my favorite days will be posted here in conjunction with the ones posted on blogger. As long as I'm on time with getting things scanned I should get the first one up either next Monday or Tuesday morning, midnight EST.

Commissions are still open and much newer examples of my work will be posted and prices are still the same.

And with that, I say 'adios'.

Warning, this is long:

Yeah, I'm tired of even seeing the influence map so here it is text style! With links until I get bored of it! Yeah, go me for being too lazy to drag a few pictures together!

Music:

I live listening to music. As I start typing this I'm listening to Jimi Hendrix, one of the few times I'll listen to one artist and not just shuffle through all of my music. Then again, I've been listening to only Jimi since last night and have gotten my Jimi fill, but his guitar is stil really fucking sexy. That's neither here nor there as my ears orgasm from what he's playing. I love music and live with it. Here are a few of the artists I have an auditory boner for when it comes to creating things.

Tom Waits: His songs are almost all narratives, I can get behind that. His voice is a lost quality, it's a lost sound that if culture continues it's social stigma on smoking will be lost to time. The man put so much time, energy and effort into finding the sounds he wanted when you listen to his performances they all have a grace and nuances that are amazing. I just as much love finding the same songs on youtube when he had a different delivery or a slightly different recording from a live performance and seeing a different take.Another thing that stands out is his songs are more often a narrative and not a cyclical song that returns to a chorus or a break. Or that may just be in the songs I've decided are my favorites.
Notable favorite songs: Burma Shave, Whistlin' Past The Graveyard, Ice Cream Man

Gorillaz: This is a one-two punch, I love Jamie's art and I love Damon's music. Jamie's art from what he did with Tank Girl and what he's doing now is gorgeous. I wish I had the patients to get that much detail into a picture. There's so much going on and he handles it, I love it. For Damon's songs I get lost in the sounds before I focus on the words. That's how I love just about all songs, taking the voice as an instrument before I separate it to discern what it actually being said.
Notable Favorite Songs: White Flag, Clint Eastwood, Every Planet We Reach is Dead

Nina Simone: Her voice is so full of pain, it's always so gorgeous. Her breadth of music is also quite amazing, sh as soulful blues and peppy show-tunes. Her songs help maintain a mood when I draw so I'm not just listening to one song, it can more often be an album or a few different songs so a picture, a sketch can feel right.
Notable Favorite Songs: Love Me or Leave Me, Sinnerman, Take Care of Business

Jimi Hendrix: I know he hated his singing voice but he continued, I just plain love the sound. It's a clash of chaos and the playing. It's not just technically good, it flows. His music doesn't try to stay contained, it goes where it want to and comes back around. I really would have loved to have heard more of his jazzier or bluesier music that he was planning on shifting to.
Notable Favorite Songs: Red House, Spanish Castle Magic, Gypsy Eyes

Movie Soundtrack and Score: With my intense love of music and movies there is the lovechild of both. Not music videos, but  score and soundtracks. I buy more soundtracks than I do individual albums because I love the combination of music types and it introduces me to more artists that I would not have ventured to purchasing on my own. Score helps keep me in a mood or is a quick reminder of a movie if I'm actually drawing fan art, which is rare.

Other: Pretty much everything that can be found that I've either linked to on blip.fm or as listed on my Last.fm account are songs and music that I love. It's not always easy to explain why I love a song but something clicks, it hits an emotion and it takes a while for me to let go. Artists I listen to now that I don't as much as before include Larc~En~Ciel, the pillows, Yasushi Iishi, Rammstein, Mindless Self Indulgence. New (to me) notables include: That Handsome Devil, Cage the Elephant, Pink Martini, Arctic Monkeys, Coconut Records, Fuck Buttons, Long Division, Osymyso.

Movies, Television and Cartoons:

I get inspired by so many damn things, here I touch on some movies, TV shows and cartoons I love. Some of these cross a few boundaries but it's the nature of visual media it seems.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang: Twitter knows of my love of this movie, as do people I know in real life. What I love about this movie is the writing, it's ball bustingly funny and clever. It's a whodunit tied into black comedy. I love a mystery and this is a mystery that is not readily solved. I love the use of a trio, if you look at my worn most of my friendships are based around 3 people and this movie really makes it work. Each character has a shining moment and a low point of sorts. It doesn't hurt that I'm an RDJ fan, I'll use this as my love for his other movies so I can address other flicks, I'd stay in a rut.

Wes Anderson: Everything. I enjoy how his movies seem to take place next to reality. What happens is usually highly implausible but it all happens in a real-world setting. It's a weird look at life which I like, it makes it seem like life is more interesting than it is. It's interesting to see his character's motivations and how they change and grow over time. In conjunction to this I love his musical choices for his movies. They work out to be just the right type of sound that I'd rather not imagine anything else.

Bryan Fuller: Fuller has hand an illustrious career in making shows that very few people have seen but those who have often times love them. What stands out to me about his work is how he took death and made it into something people could and should laugh at. It's morbid, it's fucked up, it's entertainment. It works because he goes so over the top in his world that it seems like if they didn't go as far it wouldn't seem right. He created Pushing Daisies, Wonderfalls and Dead Like Me, three shows that the world booted from television after relatively few episodes. I love how he turned the world on it's head and made death more acceptable, especially ludicrous over the top deaths. I listen to the score that Jim Dooley wrote and my mind goes to that extra brightly colored world from Pushing Daisies and I want to draw Ned or just watch the show again and be inspired by how cartoony everything was. [Note: I decided I liked him so much I wrote about him twice...]

The Fall: This movie went to the most beautiful locations, I am awe struck every time I watch it and I just want to share it with all of my friends. They story at it's core shows how selfishness can hurt others, but how it get there and what actually happens are stunning, I love the performance they got out of the kid. I also really love the costumes and have drawn them, they're just incredibly gorgeous. I love the story and I love the visuals.

Hayao Miyazaki: Is anyone allowed to say that don't like him? Also, his face is amazing, all white hair jet black eyebrows, what the fuck? I have fond memories of waiting for free Disney Channel as a kid so I could watch Kiki's Delivery Service which was my first Miyazaki film, it's still one I love on par with Princess Mononoke and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind which I enjoyed as a manga prior to seeing the film. I love the stories he tells and how everything is drawn. They style is just as complex as it needs to be at any given moment, but doesn't seem to be overwhelmingly complex.

Tex Avery, Chuck Jones, and Looney Tunes: Avery and Jones were my favorite of the animation leaders and directors but I did love Looney Tunes. They pushed boundaries, they were political, they were silly retellings of popular classics and Warner Brothers still tries to make money off of them. They were retired and every few years they try to bring them back because they were that amazing. When the art hit it's peak it was at it's most amazing. The stories at times were simple and they had their rules, the mice or whoever was being chased had to win. It seems an exception was if the cat was running from a dog because the dog was defending a smaller animal then the dog won, that's neither here nor there. The art was so explosive and so far reaching. Elements of their work is still being seen today in cartoons. They were also 'edgy' at times, this is most memorable for me in the  Red and Wolf cartoons that Avery did at MGM. Tex Avery cartoons are still some of my favorites and stick in my mind.

Anime & Manga: I watched a lot of anime for about 10 years, it started with Pokemon which can be seen in my much older works and possibly in how I draw hair now. Two series that I go back to time and time again in my mind for little nuances are  Cowboy Bebop and Trigun. The stories stood out in my mind in anime because they were not just the magical girl series and the characters seemed to have ramifications for at least some of their actions. They were dramatic. There were plenty of happy endings for individual episodes, but the shows ultimately took  dramatic turn. Dramatic movies and stories are some of my favorites  so I loved seeing it happen in these shows. I know as I drew I emulated the long limbs seen in both of these shows and I tried drawing these characters. Other favorite shows were Outlaw Star, Hellsing, Hellsing Ultimate and a few things by Clamp.

The Weekenders: This one is really noticeable, my story Cinema is heavily influenced and inspired by Cinema for the art direction. I had been in a depressed slump for a spell and caught a marathon of The Weekenders in 11th grade and I liked the abstraction of head-to-body and I attempted to create a group of high schoolers as a one off and they stayed. I still love the show and wish Disney would be less of a cunt bucket and drop that shit on DVD.

Disney: A love of Disney movies were important to me. Alladin, The Lion King, The Aristrocats, 101 Dalmatians, Jungle Book, The Great Mouse Detective and The Fox and The Hound are seriously some of my favorites. Every time I watch these movies now I want to draw the characters, I love how fluid the animation is on these movies. I appreciate the amount of work they did in capturing the motion that these animals did by drawing them from life and keeping them near in the early states of designing them.

90s Cartoons: The absurdists and not entirely for children cartoons of the early 90s hold a special place in my heart. Rocko's Modern Life, Ahhh! Real Monsters, Ren and Stimpy and more. I  love them and I miss them. The Animaniacs and what Warner Brothers did in the 90s was also all pretty damn spiffy too, those are also all shows I'll sit down and watch on youtube or contemplate going out to buy.

Bruce Timm: Batman: The Animated Series Seasons 1-3. Need I say more? Well yeah, season 4's art I did not like in the least. I understand it was a cheaper way to animate, but it was also a horrible way to animate. That style worked for Superman and not Batman for a reason.

Other: There way too much to list and it goes on. Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith as directors get tons of love. Edgar Wright, Charlie Chaplin, Clint Eastwood, Al Pacino, Simon Pegg, Joss Whedon, it goes on. The visuals to the characters portrayed to the ideas in what was created. It would be impossible for me to list them all.

Comics and Static work:

Warren Ellis: I love his writing and the ideas he addresses in his comics. He doesn't just want to tell a logical narrative, he wants to have his audiences look at the world around them and question how we got to where we did and how we're going to fix it. The artists he works with work incredibly hard to create the worlds he imagines and  combined it's an amazing force of awesome.

Every Webcomic I Read: I read a lot of webcomics and I take something from every one of them. Some of my biggest influences are from webcomics I don't read anymore. Papercuts is a big one, I read this comic for about 3 years, and Elyneara's other work. Sadly it's a dead comic but I was interested in where it was headed. If you look at my work carefully, you can still see how it influenced what I drew. Megatokyo, MacHall, and AppleGeeks are a few more that I started in high school that I pulled from, especially Megatokyo which I'm sure is still noticable in my work at times. Other comics that I still read that influence me are Dominic Deegan, Little Gamers and Other People's Business which is by the same person who did Friendly Hostility. Girls with Slingshots, Questionable Content and Shortpacked! are some of my new additions to inspirations. Journal comics have been influences more and more in recent years, so Dar, Ellerbisms, The Everyday, Kid with Experience and Journalin' Comix have been influences in recent months. There are boatloads of others, too many for me to want to link to or talk about.

Salvador Dali: I can't help loving his work.

Deviantart: My work has improved by leaps and bounds from being on deviantart. All of the people I follow give me something new to think about as I draw something new, they give me another way to draw something. There are also the reference images and the tutorials. It's overwhelming at times, but I know my work has improved. The people I have linked on my front page as 'People I love to watch' or something I think have played the biggest influence in my work and I have considered them a challenge to emulate at times.

Photography and/or People: I'd be a shit artist if I didn't say 'real life' because it does. Everything I see, everything I do and everything I experience affects what I draw and how I draw.  I look at people around me and scribble quick thumbnails of poses or clothing. I study people who are still or sitting and figure out how to draw it. I pose myself and draw what it feels like I'm doing which is really hard because them I'm not drawing what I'm seeing, I'm drawing what I'm doing, then having to turn the mental camera around so I  can draw it. I use people around me as references all the time.

Umm, yeah. I think that's everything. This took too retardedly long to write, but I kind of explained why I like these things which in a cyclical fashion explains how it influences me. There's a lot of other things that I never wrote because it didn't come to mind, and as I said in the webcomics when I decided to lump them all together instead of go over each - I follow over 20 webcomics. I took forever going through my lumped together movies, tv and cartoons and I'm actually tired of writing. Considering how much I write normally this one just plain took forever, about...3 hours of writing. Yeah. Enjoy.

Inspired by humon.deviantart.com/journal/3… a blog by Humon about why she rarely draws girl-girl.

I respect her opinions and her decision. If I was in her situation I'd possibly feel the same way. Being, more or less, an internet nobody and not dealing with people bitching with me an what I post that often leaves me more free to experiment with what I post here and the situations my characters are put in.

Starting with me, I am a heterosexual female. I have a fair number of heterosexual couples and a fair about of homosexual couples. After that, I do feel bad that I have feel bisexual or lesbian females. I have Violet, from Necropolis, who at the time of me writing this, does not have a significant other. She was in love with a straight girl, that's not a fair or happy ending. My lesbians, Wren and Azeriel break up after they've been together as friends than as girlfriends for about ten years.

I actually do feel bad that they don't stay together. None of my male-male couples break up permanently. Donovan and Solomon are on rocky water for the majority of their relationship, but they stay together in the end. Bohemian and Amadeus I haven't explored them too much so who knows, maybe they will separate, even writing that feels wrong. It's only speculation. Atlantis and Umenosuke from Travelers, them I don't feel bad about breaking up, but their relationship isn't all that big a deal to me. Hmm...I know I have more but they're not really coming to mind. Part of what makes Necropolis important for me is exploring so many relationships. My heterosexual couples there are pretty good, they have their troubles but stay together.

In Cinema I don't focus that much on characters sexuality because it wasn't that big a deal for me. And a lot of people were 'in the closet' when I was in high school. It's not autobiographical, but moderately influenced on my collective high school experiences. There will be some, but they'll probably be background characters. For heterosexual I have to defined couples. One on-again-off-again-maybe-dating couple and the last lead has no one...because I'm an ass? There's one openly gay character so far so I get to deal with his outing, I'll have to poll for information so when I write that chapter it doesn't seem contrived. I'm glad I have plenty of openly gay friends who will hopefully be willing to help me with that.

In Travelers all of the leads are straight. As I said before Atlantis and Umenosuke are gay, but they're not main characters, it's not even about them so that's a non-event until I finish the main story.

Character Creation

Mon May 10, 2010, 7:58 PM
I don't go out to eat for the food, but the food is good, I go out to eat for the conversation

~~~~~
Life takes time
~~~~
~~~~
BombshellBoy had a poll today questioning how people create their characters. Is it design first, personality, history or other. I generally start from a drawing, some stray doodle that I end up loving, or loving the design. I usually go from their, trying similar clothes and start working out a personality or a name. I'll get them started and I'm working on them and their personality then I give them a friend who has something to do with them, often they'll have a competing personality. I'll also have someone who will fill in the gaps in the group if I get past two people. More often than not before I get done with the first character I'll have given them some type of hell or difficulty so their life isn't all sunshine and rainbows. I also like working out how to get them out of their difficulties. During this time I'll go and think about them younger than their current age, when they met people and friends. I try to keep things somewhat realistic and have it make sense. Not everyone gets something hellish, but something dark like that is fun to work with. What makes them happy, sad, and everything else is just so much fun, not just because it keeps them from always being happy or positive, but it helps them seem more real to me.
Here are some of their backstories and some of what I've put them through.
Cinema
Davey was drawn first, he had more of an attitude and was more of a negative character at first. He became nicer a few months after I created him. I believe Smyth was created second and Alpha third. I like having trios, it's always a good balance to have three characters for me. Sephy was designed a few weeks after Davey, Smyth and Alpha. She was an outsider because of that, but also became a friend early enough in their ages that at their current ages of 17/16 that things are fine. I have plans for different squabbles at younger ages that they work through. - too many background characters to go into
Necropolis
I put these characters through hell from the get go. Solomon and Giovanni break various bones they day they meet which is how they meet. Zanita grew up with Giovanni and they imposed on Giovanni. Then later on there's dealing with Solomon's homosexuality and his father.  In London Bohemian and hi twin sister Sebastian (Tia) Bo's goes blind at 5, and not too long after they turn six their mother dies, they have no father, I haven't figured out what his deal is yet. Violet has unrequited love and I don't think I have anything too drastic for David.
Travelers
Alexis is the child of servants. Daisuke isn't human and has to hid his non-human side least he be hunted and killed. Aryan, their guide left home when he was about 15 to work as a translator and guide for travelers. Sahara - previously Sapporo - is another child of servants but had a much more difficult life because her right arm was deformed at birth then removed. At some time she got a mechanical prosthesis.
Untitled
Azerial and Wren meet in high school and are both bi. I don't like their original reason for meeting, so that will change; it was a random hallway encounter. Azerial was raised by her father and grew up with two older brothers and one younger brother, her mother died when she was a kid. Ria becomes their friend in college, her parents were Black Panthers and she's a free spirited radical, and a lesbian.
Icarus is Azerial's maternal uncle, he meets Leopold in college, they're roommates. I haven't delved too far into their past, but Icarus started stripping in college to pay for school. I don't know too much about Leah, she needs to be developed more.
Scripps is a genius who started college at 12, he started smoking marijuana at 15 and met Methvin in his third college, which is why they're the same age.
--
Then I have so many abandoned characters. In review I have three with dead mothers, the twins and Az; I have 2 with deformities; then others with heavy social issues to deal with. I love putting my characters through hell. I could fill books with little interactions and minor issues. So many broken bones, a lot of people moving to where they are now, then there's what happens after the story. I know what happens when Traveler's is over, I have children for most of the characters. I've thought about the Cinema characters in college and after when they split up and go to different schools, then seeing each other after they've changed. I have break ups and fights, so much hell and it's all so much fun. Hell, I have a grim reaper, not much is known outside him being a grim reaper and that's fine with me. I have so much love for all of my characters it's insane. So much story to get into, now I just need the time to get it all together C:
Hmm, for people who don't/haven't visited my front page, I have a twitter account that I update often... here's my page twitter.com/MeisterJ
umm...yeah. I curse a lot on twitter, when I'm not cursing something I talk about movies, comics and link to my nondA blog that updates a lot more than this one. I write and rant about a bunch of things over there, and every now and again I link to my sketchblog where I post doodles that haven't gone over here.
I really don't have anything else to say, I was kind of tired of seeing my Journal o' Links, so yeah...
Cheers?
Stacks Piss Me The Fuck Off
~~~~~
HULK by Dale Keown by StephenSchaffer This is how fucking stacks make me feel. Fuckin' a.
~~~~
~~~~

I don't like them. I find them annoying for going through deviations. I have 280 deviations to go through and I like to check them out chronologically I don't like that I either have to clear them out stack by stack, or go through each stack to delete the one or two deviations then try to continue through chronologically. I don't see a way to turn stacks off, so they piss me the fuck off.

You're now free to return to your regularly scheduled journals and deviant art things.

Critiques

~~~~~
Advice for Art Majors by Avenar & angryface.jpg by Coelasquid C:
~~~~
~~~~
I was thinking about sketching out some of the side characters in Cinema on the tablet so I could upload them here. I've been such a lazy frig about getting to the lab to scan anything and I want to post something, so I'll scribble something on my tablet until I get off my ass and use the fucking scanners before I hate everything I have from before.
What does that little introduction have to do with anything? I was trying to decide who to upload and settled upon Damien Hirchfield and his friend Theodore, who hasn't been seen here yet. I decided on Hirchfield because of Angry Alphabet.  I realized I had his information wrong and some stupid typos and went to fix them when I actually read the thing about critiques and why dA has them.
So, Critiques:
:bulletgreen: Get real commentary and feedback on your work -- Ehh, fine
:bulletblue: Attract more views through critical attention and rankings -- What?
:bulletred: Achieve community acclaim -- The fuck?
Commentary and feedback can happen in the comments section just as well in the critiques section. I was going to critique once, but realized I didn't have 100 words worth of stuff to say. When people ask for critiques and I think I see something they can strengthen I'll add, sometimes, but I've been behind on going through deviations so I tend not to comment because if it was a work in progress, by now it's usually finished.
I don't see why if I feel my work isn't where it could be, and I desire commentary that I should necessarily get more views. Yes, more people will hopefully comment and help the piece, and my art as a whole if I get more attention, but with how this is worded it's just another chance for pageviews which don't do anything but boost egos.
Achieve community acclaim this is the one I have issues with. Getting critiqued isn't about the attention or fucking acclaim, it's about improving your work as an artist. It's about getting eyes on your work that can see where something is falling short and help you find a way to improve on it. It's not about popularity, why is it being made out to be about popularity?
Hell, since the critiques option was added I haven't seen too many people actually using it. I've turned off notifications about it, so I don't see those every now and again. Is that how we're supposed to get acclaim, by having third party members see that you got critiqued and to see what the hullabaloo was? That's shit. After seeing how critiques go in my classes it's not about attention because everyone gets a fair chance at being critiqued, not just the 'special' few who pay for it. We work out better ways to finish a piece, or figure out what's working, what's not and why. If critiques were t really be fair then everyone would be able to use the critique feature. All in all, what's the real point of it, I mean, people can leave a critique in the comments section of a post, does having a second type of comment box really change anything?
On Twitter Randy, who draws Something Positive posted a link to this blog positionrelative.wordpress.com… it is a link to a Craigslist Post where, I assume, an artist calls out all those people who act like they're giving the artist a favor by displaying their work, and not paying for it. I haven't really been sought out for working for places, other than at a coffee shop I frequent, the proprietor said I could get together a 'show' of things which would be cool, and I'd be willing to sell those things, but that won't be for a while. I want what I display there to be good, that aside, it's an interesting list. It's a shame it's been flagged as improper on Craig's List because it does what needs to be done, it calls out people who are trying to get work for free from artists.
It's a new year dA-ers and as such all my old work is unfeatured in my gallery. It's not that I don't love some of it, it's to make it look less cluttered. I'm staying with my belief that old work helps to remind me that I used to suck. Only a few things have been hidden, and nothing has ever been removed from my gallery. Feel free to enjoy anything I have posted before December 31st 2009 by going to my gallery and looking at 'browse' all can be seen there.
Happy New Year people. I hope to get some things posted soon. I'm coloring the Cinema NYE party pic, a bit more color and it will be my first dev for the year. I'm also working on pages for the comic, so once I get back to school I'll be posting pages on it's site, which will be shared when I actually have things up there. Cinema also has a new site from the old smackjeeves one from three years ago. It's much less eye-rapingly retarded now
Well, until next I write, au revoir!
10 more facts about me
1. Post these rules.
2. Each tagged person must post 10 things about themselves on their journal.
3. At the end, you have to choose and tag 10 people and post their icons on the same journal.
4. Go to their pages and send a message saying you tagged them.
5. No tag-backs.
1) I love random facts and knowing useless trivia. I have also learned that the stupid trivia I've learned has come up in conversation years later. This goes for both trivia and weird news and information I looked up years ago when I got my own computer and my mom couldn't see a damned thing I looked at. :|
2) I have a subscription to Esquire Mag. I bought it first because Johnny Depp was on the cover and I wanted to read the article, I stay for the articles. It's a very smart magazine, and who doesn't love photo shoots of attractive actors, or questioning why this month's issue is like 'hey, check out Robert Downey Jr's groin' seriously. That smile is because he KNOWS he's saying 'check out my junk'
3) I am now the proud own of a brand new bed. Was sleeping on an air mattress for two months, that deflated two days after by birthday. I've been sleeping on the world most uncomfortable futon for a month in the living room. Now I'm back in my room, on a full sized bed, that I bought :D I'm a happy girl
4)  I have started a blog on blogger for posting Cinema, which I hope to start in early 2010. That link has not been shared yet, it will be once I get the pages up
5) Ever since I chopped of my hair earlier this year, I've been happier with it short, and will keep it short for a while. I keep it short and natural, one of these days I'll get it straightened out, while keeping it short. First time I did a major cut to my hair was October 2008
6) Speaking of October 2008, in the passenger side door of my car is a can of Hawaiian Punch. It was one of two that I'd taken to drink on my drive from school to home, but never drank, so it stayed in the car. I plan on keeping it there until I get a new car, then transferring it. It'd be cool if I was 80 and still had that can of Hawaiian Punch in my car.
7) I like 'It's Not Unusual' by Tom Jones in an unironic fashion. Seriously, I honestly like that song. That doesn't mean I don't sometimes do the Carlton Dance in my head when it plays. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxdauq… www.youtube.com/watch?v=zS1cLO…
8) I have gotten responses on Twitter from: Martin Starr, Nick Frost, and Warren Ellis. All three made me pretty fucking happy.
9) I have some mildly irrational fears and some totally rational paranoia. I fear falling off my bed if it's not against a wall, even though I've never fallen off my bed. I'm paranoid about getting run over as I walk around campus. That shit could fucking happen. Contemplating doing some :iconseph-hunter: style two/three panel comics about this.
10) It wasn't until I was about 12 or so that I realized that most women don't often use the word 'cunt'. My mom used it all the time, so I never gave it much thought and have used it as an insult in that form, and in the word 'scunt' which I believe is an amalgamation of 'skank' and 'cunt'. Back in my freshmen year of college, 2007/08, I was with some friends chatting about this and that and I told them of the awesome that is the word 'scunt' and some random :iconrandom1plz::iconrandom2plz: adult from a table near us said 'That's a GREAT!!!! word' The three of us fell out laughing because we really did not expect it.
----
Note: AtomicStoney is having a hard time atm, if you can help or pass the word it'd be cool.
I thought it could be interesting to send out multiple cards, so send me a note if you're interested in receiving one in the mail. You have a week from today so I have more than enough time to get these drawn and super prettied up for the mail and shipped out in a hopefully timely fashion. Let's see how successful I'll be, especially since I NEVER draw seasonal pictures.
Hmm, I write journals for here so rarely and haven't had the chance to scan, but my 21st birthday was this past Monday, November 9th. Huzzah!! What's been lame is the hurricane/Nor'easter/tropical storm Ida which flooded out Norfolk meant I couldn't get out from a drink, less I wanted to be swallowed by the over flowing drink. But today is gray, but not raining, so I'm getting my legal drink on soon, as lon as the weather holds
I just wanted to get that last journal off my front page. Not much to say. If you're watching my gallery, which I assume you would be, you can assertain that I'm shooting to get Cinema off the ground once more. I think I might use a Blogspot or Wordpress for it. I don't want the old Smackjeeves account anymore. If I can remember how to log in, I'll delete it. The new comic is made not of fail, and actuall knowledge of movies. It's more movie centric, and I know more about movies so that'll get dropped in. It's a place for me to talk about movies in a way, and to talk about Reston, VA, where it takes place. It's not in the 'real' Reston, more a place I call Reston, but I like the type of area. This Reston for the comic is what the comic needs, and is mostly Reston in name and location, and locales in and around Reston, but it's not the Reston you'd find on a map. More about that here on blogger
Something funny is this: failblog.files.wordpress.com/2… it makes my friggin' day.
Well, that's getting to be a misnomer because they do have a world, but no true story. Not like Necropolis, there's no true story, but there is enough to really link them together. With these characters they exist because they are fun as all fuck to draw and write about.
But, let's jump into my 'No World' Characters. this one, plus mroe thumbnail because you may not know them by name as well.
Write out the names of your characters and explain:
1) how you thought of their name
2) what made you create the character in the first place
3) how the character has changed over time (if they have changed)
4) any random fun fact about that character
AzrielFamily Azerial by DIchigo
1) I think I just liked the sound of the name. I probably pulled it from something I read when I created her.
2) Wanted to have a lesbian because I had a lot a gay dude, and not enough chick on chick action for it to not be hyprocritical. Hell, I still have few lesbians, but this is a start
3) She's become more femenine and has a range of emotion. She's still a lot more butch than Wren is. She's a fighter, but not as quick to start them, but she can finish them that's for fucking sure.
4) She's Icarus' niece, on her mother's side.
Wren</a>Happy Double Couple by DIchigo
1) This is a name I know I took from something I'd been reading. Can't remember what anymore, but yup, it's from a book.
2)Her original drawing was a bad version of a male character I had, so I changed the gender and boom! The first Wren had really stupid hair...
3) Her hair is less stupid looking and less gravity defying animu. She's not as quick to jump into a fight, like she was when I created her, but still can handle herself. Is soo the homemaker type.
4) She's the only person Az will never ever hit. Even during an argument. Wren, will totally hit Azriel though
IcarusCreation of Icky and Leo by DIchigo
1) I had another character who had the same hairstyle. The 'original' icarus was named such b/c he was a fan character for the Pandect RPG, and he was a duck Ace, the who flying and story of Icarus flying too close to the sun deal.
2)I drew a pose [upper left of the tumbnail] of a naked man. i couldn't think of any clothes so I slapped a speedo onto him so he wouldn't be naked. While drawing the initial pencil it evolved so he was a sexy-stripper-scientist. That was such a silly premis I had to keep drawing him. It was also interestsing to have characters in their thirties
3) He's become less spastic/retarded over the past year. Still one to party, but is more mature in general. Apparently he's materilized glasses that I seem to forget about...
4) I'll giev you two. The first, he had a cruch on Leopold when they were in college. Two, he had a series of really really weird and odd jobs between high school and college.
Leopold Pink Lemoade by DIchigo [rocking the red vest]
1) A kid who joined my school's Fencing Club was named 'Leo' I never had the chance to ask what it was short for and decided his real name was Leopold. A few weeks later I have our bald and bearded friend and think the name suits him well, and it does.
2) He was originally just a co-worker of Icarus' who disapproved of his moonlighting job and liked to lecture him as to why it was wrong, but became a real character and a real friend for him. A voice of reason, we can say.
3)His look hasn't changed, he's become less preachy, but will still tell Icarus not to parade around when they're together in Icky's place in his 'work' speedos.
4) Secretely wishes he was as brave as Icarus in a way. He's also insanely fucking blind. Is pretty fucking insane when drunk.
Michigan J. Scripps Colored Weekend Sripps by DIchigo
1) When I was on a Historically Black College tour in high school one campus we visited was named for someone named 'Scripps' and I thoguht that was a great last name for a stoner. the 'Michigan J' came from the frog whom WB retired that year. In a way for him to 'live on' that's where Scripp's first name came from
2)re-read what you just read
3) He's become less depressed and less bony. His hair has been cut and a few more piercings have been added. I deciding on weather or not to give him a tatoo or two.He's gotten more facial hair
4) He's bi with hetero leanings.
